Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival Artist Spotlight: Los Texmaniacs

TexmaniacsLos Texmaniacs are a Grammy-award winning group based out of San Antonio, Texas. This Smithsonian Folkways recording ensemble has toured around the globe introducing new audiences to Texas Roots music. Texmaniacs bandleader, Max Baca, is a veteran musician who for thirteen years performed alongside The Original Kings of Tex-Mex, Doug Sahm's Texas Tornados.* Max is also the right-hand man to accordion legend, five-time Grammy winner and 2012 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellow, Flaco Jiménez. Max is the premier first call Bajo Sexto player in the world. He has appeared on eleven Grammy winning projects with artists as diverse as, The Rolling Stones, Ricky Skaggs, Los Super Seven, and Lila Downs. Building on this foundation, Max formed Los Texmaniacs combining traditional roots music with contemporary vitality and musicianship. Joining Max on accordion is his nephew, Josh Baca. Heavily influenced by his family, Josh pursued music from a very young age. Aside from Los Texmaniacs, Josh has performed with Flaco Jiménez, Los Lonely Boys, and is currently on tour with Los Lobos. Los Texmaniacs current release "AMERICANO GROOVE" was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. The release is a progressive TexMex album tha features collaborations with Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely, as well as country artists Kevin Fowler & Rick Trevino (Official).

Los Texmaniacs will be making their Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival debut on Sunday, May 7th at Stubb's Austin!

*Texas Tornados are a supergroup that was comprised of Doug Sahm † , Augie Meyers, Freddie Fender † , and Flaco Jiménez. Their sound was a fusion of country, rock and tejano conjunto roots music. Doug's son, Shawn, has taken over the reigns of the Texas Tornados and continues his father's musical legacy. The Texas Tornados will be headlining Texas Folklife's Accordion Kings & Queens Festival at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
