Grupo Lumbre is based out of Houston, Texas. Founded by bandleader, Tony Romo, in the 80s, Grupo Lumbre has recorded under Joey Records, Sugar Hill, Fuerte Records, and recently, Hacienda Records. In the 80s and 90s, Grupo Lumbre experienced much success. Lumbre has had several singles go number #1. Those singles include "Volver, Volver," "Mi Linda Mujer, " and "Mentiras." Lumbre has also been nominated in several categories at the TTMA Tejano Music Awards. They are part of the ELSA Foundation and are sponsored by Cazadores Tequila.
Bandleader, Tony Romo, plays guitar for Grupo Lumbre. He has over 50 years experience in the music business. He is a former member of the Royal Six, Latin Sounds, and even toured with Isidro Lopez back in the day. Before Lumbre, Tony founded Tony Romo y The Delmarks whom had a successful 8-year run.
Gil Ayala Jr. is the accordion player for Grupo Lumbre. He initially came on board in 1989 as lead vocalist. Gil is a songwriter. Additionally, Gil has mastered the keyboards. He first started playing the guitar at 11 years old all the way through high school.
Christina Romo is a vocalist with Grupo Lumbre. She is the daughter of bandleader, Tony Romo. Growing up in a musical family, it was natural for Christina to follow in their footsteps. When Christina was younger, she was active in her school and church choirs. In addition to singing, Christina plays Saxaphone and Keyboards.
Gil Ayala III plays percussion for Grupo Lumbre and is the youngest of the group. His parents are Grupo Lumbre accordionist, Gil and Rita Ayala.
Rounding out the band line-up are Emilio Aguilar (Drums) and Ricardo Elias A. (Bass). Grupo Lumbre's albums, "El Nuevo Mundo" and "Querido Amigo," on Hacienda Records are out now!
